About Course

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.” Fred Rogers

These were online workshop series conducted by renowned international trainers Aliya Jafari and Samara Gupta’s Online Workshop Series, hosted by Chughtai Institute of Leadership and Learning, CILL in collaboration with Pangea SparkEd: Borderless Learning. Their vision as trainers is to empower teachers and students for a brighter future. This series was designed to inspire educators, leaders and parents  to strengthen their practice of play-based learning, equipping them with practical strategies to foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in their learning spaces.

Drawing on the philosophies of Reggio Emilia and the IB Early Years Programme, the series highlights how play fosters inquiry, creativity, agency, and holistic development. Practical strategies for designing, documenting, and extending play will be demonstrated, with opportunities for participants to apply them in their own settings. The aim is for educators to leave with a deeper understanding of play as pedagogy, strategies to create inquiry-rich environments, and tools to align play-based learning with curriculum.

Upon completion, participants will be certified as Pangea SparkEd’s Play-Based Learning Practitioners.

What Will You Learn?

  • Session 1: What is Play?
  • Unpack why Play matters, from brain development and executive function to creativity. Explore the stages of Play and common misconceptions; practise noticing, interpreting and documenting learning in the moment.
  • Session 2: Designing for Play

  • keeping agency with children while designing inclusive provocations.
  • Session 3: Watching Learning in Play
  • Examine how spaces, materials and routines act as ‘third teacher’; map your own environment and plan small, purposeful adjustments that spark curiosity, collaboration and make learning visible.

Material Includes

  • A CILL Certificate is issued for each session upon full participation and successful submission of the session-specic applied task (as outlined in workshop details). Attendance for the entire duration of a session is required; certificates are awarded only to participants who attend in full and complete required tasks.

“To be honest, I was so engrossed in the workshop that I didn't think of anything else during that time. Later I thought how wonderful it would have been if my own teachers had recognized the importance of play. I loved Aliya’s and Samara’s positive energy and enthusiasm. The questions they asked made me think deeply and reflect on my teaching practices. I especially loved peeling an orange example.”
